About
The STEAM for Vietnam foundation, a non-profit organization based in the United States, is dedicated to providing high-quality, free STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Maths) education to Vietnamese students. The foundation has diligently established a robust ecosystem built upon five pillars: STEAM education, Robotics education, STEAM Hub- Technology Libraries, Train the Trainers, and a Professional Network.
In the past three years, STEAM for Vietnam has served over 50,000 students, accumulating over 10,000,000 hours of learning and fostering the creation of more than 150,000 STEAM projects, thanks to the invaluable contributions of 500 volunteers worldwide. During the 2022 summer STEAM Bus tour spanning two weeks across Vietnam, we brought STEAM education from Ha Giang (the remote far northern region of the country) to Ca Mau (the remote far southern region of the country), witnessing the exhilaration of students encountering robotics for the first time. For many in these areas, technology is a luxury, with students lacking even basic timekeeping tools, relying on the sky to gauge time. Although a single session with STEAM for Vietnam may not impart extensive knowledge, it marks a pivotal moment where dreams can take root.
In 2023, the "A Year of Robotics" Initiative, hosted by STEAM for Vietnam, impacted over thousands of students through robotics classes and 100 sponsored robot kits nationwide. This initiative culminated in a national robotics championship with 150+ teams, some traveling from as far as Dak Lak or Ha Giang to participate. 19 teams were selected to represent Vietnam at the VEX Worlds in the USA, including a team of three students and a teacher from Cao Bang, a region facing significant challenges. Despite the hurdles encountered on their journey of learning robotics, this team secured a ticket to the VEX Worlds in Dallas, Texas—a testament to the incredible possibilities education can unlock. This initiative not only demonstrates the potential of global competition but also emphasizes the role of education in inspiring and nurturing ambitious dreams.
Recognizing that educators can be as an extended arm to disseminate STEAM education to a broader audience, our primary focus for the next three years is on training local educators to serve as STEAM education amplifiers in their communities. As a pilot program, our Train the Trainers 2023, in collaboration with the Scratch Foundation (founded Scratch programming language in M.I.T Media Lab), provided training to over 4000 registered educators across all provinces in Vietnam. Our goal is to reach 10,000 trained educators this year, with a projected spillover effect benefiting one million students within three years. We believe that empowering local educators is a crucial step toward creating a lasting impact on the educational landscape of Vietnam.
