Filling In The Blanks Inc
Filling in the Blanks was founded by mothers and community activists, Shawnee Knight and Tina Kramer, who created the nonprofit as a way to marry their loves of community, children, food and charity. In 2013, Knight and Kramer created Filling in the Blanks which has now expanded to include 27 schools throughout Fairfield and Westchester Counties and has delivered over 130,000 weekend meals to children in low-income households.
Our Norwalk Campbell Snacks location spends time volunteering at meal packing and sorting events in addition to contributing time at their new Mobile Food Pantry, which allows FITB client families to receive fresh grocery items once or twice a month. We contribute Campbell Snacks branded products for the weekend meal bags as well.
Person to Person, Inc.
Person to Person serves those in need in the greater Norwalk and Stamford areas by providing financial assistance, clothing and food, as well as access to resources to improve their daily lives.
We have a long-standing partnership with Person to Person through their annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive where our employees spend a day sorting and organizing all donations received to be used in the pantry. Over the past three years, Person to Person has been a key beneficiary of product donations from our Campbell Snacks location, receiving bread, cookies and snack crackers regularly to help stock the pantry.
Malta House, Inc
In Fairfield County alone, there are over 300 births each year to unmarried women ages 18-24 who are living below the poverty line. Over 110 women are receiving homelessness/housing services who are pregnant or parenting between the ages 14-24 (30% of total homeless) and "211" reports that approximately 80% of women who request housing are put on a waiting list. Malta House is the only home for pregnant women above the age of 18 in Fairfield County, and one of a limited number of programs for young homeless mother and their babies.
Norwalk's Community Affairs Council championed a Cooking Matters event in F'19. The house residents were able to get hands-on experience in making a simple four-course meal, showing the mothers how to make healthier food choices within meals their families already know and love.
