Democracy At Work Institute
The mission of the Democracy at Work Institute (DAWI) is to expand the promise of cooperative business ownership to reach those communities most directly affected by social and economic inequality. It ensures that further growth in the worker cooperative movement is both rooted in worker cooperatives themselves and reaches out to new communities of worker-owners, particularly low-income people, people of color and recent immigrants.
Southeast Center for Cooperative Development
MissionIn the fight against wealth and income inequality: We strive to increase economic opportunities and benefits by creating and strengthening cooperative businesses and other wealth-building entities that help grow a more equitable economy. By developing and supporting collective ownership and democratic control (businesses owned and controlled by workers or real estate developments owned and controlled by the community) we help increase the income and wealth of those who have been marginalized. We give priority to developing the power and capacity of low-income, minority, and/or underserved areas of Metropolitan Nashville and the Southeast.VisionThe elimination of racial and community disparities in employment, wealth and income in an economy that sustains community and earth.
