Hi Women@! As you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This year, Women@Shutterstock is excited to organize the second annual virtual Women@Walkathon to raise money and awareness for breast cancer survivors. It’s a great way to get engaged and give back, and everyone is invited to participate! Here is how it’ll work: 1. The Walkathon will be live from October 12 - November 8 and will be a fully virtual event. You can walk in a park, on the sidewalk, on a treadmill…really anywhere that works for you! 2. Choose a distance to walk (or run!) —1 mile, 5K, 10K or more if you’d like! 3. Take a picture of yourself during your walk/run or after you’ve finished, and upload it to @erg_women on Slack. Please include a quick sentence or two about why you participated—for research, in honor of a friend or family member, or any other reason. 4. For every photo submitted during the month of October, Women@Shutterstock will donate $100 (up to $3,000) to our Women@Walkathon Fund on Bright Funds! To kick things off, Women@Shutterstock is making a $1,000 contribution to our Walkathon fund, which benefits Breast Cancer Research Foundation and The Pink Agenda. Please consider making a donation of any size—every dollar counts!

Each year, over 40,000 women will die of breast cancer in the United States. Although prevention, research, and treatment have made tremendous strides over the past two decades, breast cancer remains a major threat to women worldwide. It is the most common cancer in women, regardless of race or ethnicity. While white women are slightly more likely to develop breast cancer than are African American women, African American women are more likely to die of the disease. Asian, Latina, and Native American women have a lower risk than of developing breast cancer, but stigma within Hispanic and Latino groups prevents them from seeking care and enrolling in clinical research. The Women's Intuitive Network (WIN) ERG is proud to launch this campaign to raise funds for breast cancer research. While there has been an overall 40 percent decline in breast cancer deaths over the last 30 years—thanks to gains in awareness, early diagnosis, and treatment—there is a persistent mortality gap between Black women and white women. More progress needs to be made to improve outcomes for Black women with breast cancer. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. In addition to the Pink Picture Initiative sponsored by the Zai Lab Women’s Leadership Community and US InShape Advocates, Zai Lab will match all donations to this fund 5:1, meaning for every dollar donated, Zai will match five dollars.
