GBLS provides free civil (non-criminal) legal assistance to low-income people in Boston and 31 surrounding cities and towns. The mission is to serve as many low-income people as possible to help them secure some of the most basic necessities of life such as food, safety, and housing. Founded in 1900, GBLS' advocates have expertise in a wide spectrum of poverty law matters. Through individual representation and impact advocacy, and working closely with a wide network of community partners, GBLS upholds the philosophy that justice is for all not just for the few with the means to afford it.
