A trafficked woman develops a coping mechanism which allows her to exist amidst the horror of her situation, but she would never wish the experience upon anyone. Least of all her children. Poor or orphaned children are unable to get a chance to learn. They often drop out of school to help provide for themselves or their family, even at an early age. Without an education, the children will be subject to a life of extreme poverty and, at times, may be forced into bonded labor. This project comes alongside children in poverty and provides them with their basic needs in order for them to succeed. They get a chance to attend a quality school that teaches, prepares, and encourages them to realize their dreams and pursue promising careers. They also receive after-school tutoring if extra academic help is needed. In addition to an education, children receive assistance for food, shelter, and clothing to ensure their success. Through your generosity, you can work in the remote District of Malkangiri, Odisha. Here, Dr. Sunali treats women and children who suffer in extreme poverty. Living in remote jungles these people have no access to medical treatment, yet living in the tropics and often times drinking unsafe water they are subject to a variety of diseases; malaria, typhoid, cholera and others. Along with her husband Remo, Dr. Sunali also works to help them work their way out of poverty through adult literacy, microenterprise training and loans, and the development of community engagement through seminars and self-help groups. Dr. Sunali is giving the poor and marginalized a hand-up rather than a handout. By providing pre-natal and early childhood care Dr. Sunalini and her team have been able to begin medical treatment to a number of new groups and in many new villages which were previously unserved. In India, more than 50 percent of women are illiterate. Living in poverty with a limited education greatly hinders these women from finding quality jobs to support their families. They face the dilemma of leaving their children to wander about the village as they work in the field. Their children are vulnerable and often end up with a substandard education. Our Women’s Empowerment project empowers poor women in rural villages with valuable sewing skills and a sewing machine so they can earn a respectable living and help their families. $75 provides training for a woman, $100 provides the sewing machine and $175 will both train and equip her. The women will attend a tailoring school and receive six months of training, where they will develop their sewing skills and learn about basic business practices. Once a woman graduates from the tailoring program, she will receive her own sewing machine. She will be able to start her own tailoring business from home and earn a daily income that can provide food and basic necessities for the whole family. The beauty of a home based business for women is that it not only provides income that can be used for food clothing and education, but since they are home it helps them improve their children’s opportunity for success. The children will be able to attend a better school and their mother will be home to help insure their homework gets done and that they are in school every day. Empowering a woman with training and a sewing machine is a great way to transform a family.

This project rescues women and children from the dangers of Mumbai's red-light districts and relocates them to a safe home, where they will receive shelter, food, clothing, medical care, counseling and education The safe house protects trafficked women and children from the dangers of Mumbai's red light districts and provides them with a loving home, food, counseling and education. Women and children living in the red light areas have experienced major physical and psychological trauma. The safe houses give them hope for a better life. The children are placed in loving environments, where they can grow and play in a safe neighborhood. They attend English Medium Schools and they are taught social skills so that they will have the opportunity to succeed in life.

Education provides opportunity for children trapped in extreme poverty. This fund provides a quality education to poor or orphaned children in India. The children are often marginalized because of their low caste. They don't have money to attend school let alone afford basic essentials. With a good education, these children will have an opportunity to succeed. They'll be able to pursue careers and contribute back to their communities. Unsafe, dirty water causes sickness and death. It’s heartbreaking that women spend so much time collecting water that causes devastating diseases like dysentery, cholera, and typhoid. Diarrhea is the second most common cause of death among children under the age of five in India. The water they think is safe makes them sick, and has the potential to kill. Unsafe water is a major cause that keeps people in poverty. Women will spend several hours each day collecting water, walking barefoot for several miles across dirt roads to get water for their families. The water is not safe to drink, but it is often their only option. This is time that can be spent conducting business, growing food or caring for and teaching their children. When the children get sick, they must spend what little money they have to take the sick child to a doctor in town and buy medicine. One trip will usually cost several days wages. Unsafe water creates a vicious cycle, which causes sickness and keeps people entrenched in poverty. The clean water you provide through a water-well will last for an average of 10 years! You can make a life-changing difference and give people clean, safe drinking water. They will be able to give water to their children without making them sick.
