On Tuesday, August 4 two explosions at the port of Beirut tore through its city center, decimating buildings, upending cars, and killing people. More than 150 people have died already, with hundreds missing and thousands more injured. It is estimated that 300,000+ people will be homeless or displaced due to damaged homes. Lebanon has already been heavily impacted by COVID-19 and an economic crisis that has forced tens of thousands into poverty; this latest explosion only exacerbates those prior struggles. Cisco is excited to collaborate with the San Francisco 49ers on Wheels for Refugees, a bike building event benefiting the International Rescue Committee (IRC). The IRC is working across the arc of the Afghanistan crisis by providing food, cash and other aid in Afghanistan itself while also helping to resettle Afghans who have arrived in the United States. As many Afghans have fled the country to build new lives in the United States, the IRC in Northern California will help four times the typical number of refugees placed each month. The IRC has shared that their greatest need is for bicycles to provide the refugees as a means of transportation for school and work in their new community. Cisco and the 49ers have come together to support this urgent need through a bike building event on December 16th. The event will look to provide about 50 bicycles to refugee families in the Bay Area. In addition to hosting the event, Cisco is providing a cash donation to purchase the bikes & further support the IRC’s mission. In February of 2022 Russia invaded Ukraine causing widespread damage and destruction. Morningstar & PitchBook have established a Humanitarian Aid fund composed of several nonprofits that are committed to providing humanitarian support to struggling Ukrainians. Through a single tax-deductible donation you will be supporting a broad group of organizations working to provide relief.

Heavy monsoon rains and flash flooding have devastated the communities of Pakistan since June of 2022, and the flooding is now categorized as a humanitarian crisis. An estimated 33 million people have been affected, with more than 1,000 reported deaths and more than 1,500 reported injuries. Maximum relief efforts are currently underway, but more relief and aid is needed as the country is expected to continue to experience heavy rains. The following organizations are currently making efforts to provide relief to those impacted by these catastrophic and unprecedented weather patterns.

Afghanistan needs your help in this time of desperate need. The recent devastating escalation of violence in Kabul and in the northeast regions has forced families to flee their homes in desperate search of safety. The fighting and devastation is spreading like wildfire forcing women, children and families to abandon their homes and possessions. Prior to the recent outbreak of hostilities, there were already more than four million internally displaced people in Afghanistan. The situation is grim and everyday more and more people, a majority of whom are women and children, are either internally displaced or are fleeing to neighboring countries and seeking refuge. The UN estimates that as many as half of the country’s population will be in need of urgent humanitarian aid, including food, housing and basic medical care.

On 6 February 2023, a powerful M7.8 earthquake struck Türkiye's Gaziantep province near the Syrian border, killing thousands of people and injuring thousands more in Turkey and Syria. There have been multiple strong aftershocks, felt as far away as Lebanon, Cyprus, Iraq and Egypt. One of the strongest quakes to hit the region in more than 100 years, it has caused extensive damage of homes, businesses and infrastructure; the death toll is expected to rise as search and rescue operations continue. Türkiye has declared a state of emergency and appealed for international assistance. Cisco Foundation has launched a Türkiye and Syria Earthquake disaster campaign which will support Americares, CARE, International Medical Corps, International Rescue Committee, Islamic Relief USA, Mercy Corps, and World Central Kitchen. Cisco employee gifts up to $10,000 will be matched and will not count against their annual $25K match allowance. Note on Tax Deductibility: This fund includes U.S.- based organizations. U.S. employees who make a credit card donation will receive a receipt for tax deductibility for the portion of the donation contributed to these organizations. Employees outside the U.S. will not be able to receive a receipt for tax deductibility for credit card donations to organizations in this fund.

So far, the casualties are 8,000 dead, and more than 15,000 injured people with a continually rising death toll. The infrastructure across several Turkish provinces as well as northern Syria has been destroyed, bringing further instability to communities already in crisis. The people waiting for rescue are dying from hypothermia, hospitals are destroyed, injured people must be transported to neighboring city hospitals, and most roads are destroyed. Your donation to this Fund will help the following organizations provide on-the-ground needs assessments, rescue efforts, resource distribution, and medical intervention to those impacted.

Tens of thousands of people have been killed and many more injured after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey on Monday, just 50 miles from the Syrian border. Since the earthquake there have been hundreds of aftershocks. The strongest was 7.5 magnitude, adding to the devastation. Many of the hardest-hit communities are in northwestern Syria, where people who have already been displaced several times by the ongoing conflict are among those whose homes were destroyed in the quakes. They are without adequate shelter, food and basic necessities as temperatures plunge well below freezing.

The Rohingya population, a mostly Muslim ethnic minority from Myanmar's Rakhine state, have been systematically persecuted and attacked. Since August, over 615,000 Rohingya refugees have fled Myanmar for Bangladesh. In response to this humanitarian crisis, we established the Rohingya Refugee Relief Fund to support nonprofit organizations providing critical emergency aid like shelter materials, clean water, health clinics, and support for survivors of gender-based violence.

Torrential monsoon rains and floods have washed away villages and infrastructure across three of the four provinces of Pakistan (Sindh, Baluchistan, and Punjab). As a result, around 33 million people, including 16 million children, have been affected, with more than 1,100 people dead. Some 200,000 homes have been swept away and a further 450,000 damaged; nearly 18,000 schools have been damaged as well. Government officials are calling it a “climate catastrophe” and say the country is “ground zero” for extreme weather events. In the past year, Pakistan's also experienced heat waves, forest fires, and glacial lake outbursts. Pakistan produces less than 1% of global GHG emissions, yet it is listed as one of the most climate vulnerable places in the world. We've created the fund to support organizations and their emergency response efforts delivering life saving supplies, such as food, water, medicines and shelter.

Thousands of people are dead and many more are injured after a massive earthquake rocked Turkey and Syria Monday morning. The magnitude 7.8 quake was one of the strongest to strike the area in more than a century. Amid severe aftershocks, Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) has called for international help. Many other organizations are also on the ground responding. Devastating floods from Storm Daniel have left at least 5,000 people dead and around 10,000 more missing in Libya. The United Nations’ International Organization for Migration (IOM) says that more than 30,000 people have also been displaced. Heavy rains from the storm caused two dams in the northern city of Derna to burst, washing away homes, neighborhoods and flooding streets. The debris and rubble left in the flood’s wake have made it difficult for rescue teams to access the area.
